In the opening moments of Casino Royale, James Bond makes the first of the two kills required to earn his 00 status.
The brutal fight takes place in the men’s lavatory of a cricket club in Lahore, where Daniel Craig wears a dark navy linen suit created for the production by Academy Costumes of London.
Twenty years later, Anthony Sinclair and Academy Costumes have returned to the original patterns and cutting notes to recreate the suit for the first time.
Made from substantial 265g/m² pure linen, the First Kill Suit retains the relaxed character of the original. The soft, unconstructed jacket has a relatively high-fastening two-button front, four-button cuffs, double vents and open patch pockets at the hips. The flat-fronted trousers have straight legs and plain bottoms.
Academy’s production records reveal that twenty-six examples of the original suit were made for Daniel Craig and his stuntman, providing the multiple garments required for filming and continuity during the exceptionally physical fight sequence.
The First Kill Suit is the second collaboration between Anthony Sinclair and Academy Costumes commemorating the 20th anniversary of Casino Royale, following the recreation of the Madagascar outfit earlier this year.
